Dark Side of the Combe

This race is part of the Black Combe Country Fair from the showground in Bootle. The race is free entry, following the £5 entry on the day to the show. The route heads through farmland onto the fell, up the back of Black Combe (compared to our usual race) and back the same way. The downhill should be really something, arguably better than the last downhill of the March Black Combe race. Course From the showfield, there will be a road crossing out and back. Please follow marshals’ instructions. The course is marked across farmland. This route is compulsory but please DON’T recce across this land as it is not a public right of way. Access to the fell can be gained a little further south from Bootle village if you want to check the rest of the course beforehand. The course will be marked to a stile giving access to the fell near checkpoint 1. The marking is advisory for this section, so if you can find a better route then please do. Cutoffs There is a cutoff of 35 minutes at checkpoint 1, the stream crossing. If you are timed out and asked to return (on the same route) by the marshalls, you must do so. Requirements This is an FRA registered A-Medium race, so normal kit requirements apply, whatever the weather: Full waterproof body cover (top and bottom) Hat and gloves Map, compass and whistle Emergency food. There will be kit checks and if the cloud is down, you will need the map and compass.
